Skiing & snowboarding

Kinchellie Croft looks over Nevis Range, the centre of skiing and snowboarding in Fort William. You can see the snow line and the condition of the weather from the comfort of your cottage. There is ski hire and tuition available at the base station.

For those that just want to play in the snow, sledging is just great up at the top station where there is a fine café & restaurant. It is worth just going up the gondola to walk around and see the world from above.

Pony trekking

Lots of families will love the forest pony trekking. The providers of this activity can cater for children as young as 4 years old to grand parents. If you have never been on a horse this may be the time to try it out. The forest is inviting and the experience will stay with you for years.  Ask us for more details.

White Water Rafting

This is great fun for the family. There is rafting going on in the rivers near Kinchellie so be prepared for an exciting adventure.

Mountain Biking

This is biking with a difference! Yes there are some dedicated tarmac roads for bikers, but biking in the Highlands is about getting into the forests and hills. For the really fit there is downhill biking at Nevis Range. New (less exerting) runs are being made for the 2009 season.
For most of us, including small children, off road biking is becoming very popular.

Bring your own bike or hire one from about £15 per day, and you will have a really great day in many locations. At Kinchellie we have many maps for you to pick up and choose from.

Quad biking

This sport is such fun. Recently a family of Mum Dad +2 teenagers went on the quad bikes and had the time of their life. The track goes through the forest just up the road from Kinchellie Croft.
Quad biking is available locally with Quad Bike Tours.

Clay Pigeon shooting

There are a number of clay pigeon shoots near Kinchellie Croft and we will be happy to point you in the right direction. This kind of shooting is becoming ever popular with many well organised clubs offering assistance.

Archery

There is some archery undertaken near to us so we can help link you up to a provider of this sport.

Walking

Ware do we start with walking? To experience Scotland you need to get out there and do at least a bit of walking. This is not as hard as it seems.

For those that have no or little experience and not a lot of time we at Kinchellie always recommend the walk at Glen Nevis. It really does have everything one could wish for in a short walk that allows one to soak in the majesty of the mountains, the immensity of the waterfalls, and the feel of it all so near to home.  However there is more to walking than Glen Nevis wonderful though it is.

Ben Nevis and the Aonachs are well worth walk. The "Ben" as it is affectionally known locally has a foot path that will lead you to the highest peak in the British Isles.

The forests around Kinchellie Croft would keep you going for weeks of walks, but you just don’t have enough days, so save some for the next time you come up.

Canoeing & Kayaking

There are 2 types of canoeing & kayaking first, there is the sea touring and second there is the white water kayaking. Both exiting in there own way. By touring the coast by sea one has a perfect vantage point for observing marine and bird life. There is no question that sea touring in a kayak in this area is world class. As for White water kayaking Roy Bridge along with many other places has some of the best rivers found in the country for white water kayaking.

Highland Activities, based at Ardverikie, not far from Kinchellie, can offer plenty of options for all abilities.

Climbing

The Highlands have some of the best climbing in Britain. For beginners and old hands alike, our roadside cragging and bouldering is the ideal complement to days spent on the mountains.
For the person starting off in this fantastic sport there is the Ice Factor, an indoor training rock for all the family to learn on and practice their skills.

Fishing

With a Jagged coastline and a landscape dotted by lochs and criss-crossed by rivers, it is no surprise to learn that the area around Kinchellie Croft has some wonderful opportunities for those interested in the sport of fishing. The trout-fishing season is from 15 March to 6 October and salmon fishing from 15 January to 30 September. We have a local fly fishing school that runs private lessons and guided excursions daily.

Golfing

What greater place could one have a round of golf but in the homeland of the game Scotland. Our nearest course is just 3 miles away. The scenery will captivate you as you play a 9-hole round under the watchful eye of the Nevis Mountains.

Fort William has a fine 18-hole, 6,200-yard course in the foothills of Ben Nevis. The 9-course at Traigh (pronounced ‘Try’) on the coast at Arisaig, has been described by one newspaper as “probably the most beautifully sited nine-hole golf course in the world”.
